DND Registry is Namesake.

DND Registry is Namesake.-- Well, yeah Its true, at-least in my life. I'm using this Airtel Sim card for over many years now. I switched from BSNL to Airtel since they didn't have enough coverage in my class-room, which was pretty obtrusive in boring classes when we used to message. When i switched to Airtel, BSNL didn't host any booster cards, no fancy plans, Just two plans in Prepaid and two other in Post-paid. Post paid bills are not quite an entertainer when your parents see it before paying the bill. Hence Students on the whole opt for Prepaid services with lot of offers. I was certainly one of them.

Then, I liked Airtel, It had damn good overage in my classes and every other class in my whole university. They had booster cards for calls and SMSs. I loved it. Then one by one came the shitty part of Airtel. They change booster card plans and denominations in their liking. As frequently as twice in a month. They introduce Shitty plans and remove good ones. Change plans of good booster card denominations, which would have been a good rate-cutter before they change. This is not all. I'd like to have a poll. How many people around here use GPRS services often? And would you even use that with a class10 Device. They, at airtel offer free activation of GPRS, which means automatic, which eventually means even if you don't want to setup GPRS in your mobile the would send settings which flash up and say "Update required". I thought of it to be some other Update like SMS2.0 and installed it. That's the instant I started hating Airtel.

They send browser messages, i.e. WAP ads which are to be used at premium rates. Do you want hot pictures of some actress for Rs.100? I'll kill myself instead. The world is going 3G and they still waste time on outdated WAP websites with premium content which aren't even premium enough. These ads are not from airtel and they don't take responsibility for any of that. The also send Promo normal messages. This is normal in almost all networks but Horoscope in mobile for ten-Rupees where you can collect it in a news paper which costs Rs.5 Max is bullshit. and they have the nerve to advertise this shitty offer.

Just like these there are around 10 messages a day So i decided that The DND registry by the government was indeed a necessary thing for people like me just don't like to be disturbed by an ad. So I went ahead and registered in the Do-Not-Disturb Registry in the Airtel's website (Hurray !!) . That me, celebrating in the braces didn't live long enough, not even for a minute. They said after registering that complete deactivation of all ads towards your mobile will take at least a month. Okay that's so cool a month to deactivate ads. That's super fast isn't it.They must have recruited armed personnel in trekking gear to deliver this message of Not-Disturbing-Me by foot to do the job. Awesome Airtel I couldn't have done it better myself. At least i was rest assured that a law will not be broken and hence their fleet of soldiers would deliver their messages in a month or so (Hurray !! Again!!).

That me celebrating in the braces again didn't live long either. It had been 50 days since i registered and today i got a call from an ICICI insurance agent advising about my insurance policies. He went on talking and talking. When I got a pause i crept in and told that Not-at-all-listening-to-me asshole that i don't earn money and I'm a student living in my parents' money. This again proves that the DND Registry is an eye-wash, It might work for some blessed people. I'm just not blessed and I'm sure ain't lucky.

I Hate Airtel but I sure am loving its motto. Express yourself.

Mundasupatti - a fun movie

I saw a movie the other day called Mundasupatti, I’m sure you’ve heard of it if you’re in Tamil Nadu. It was funny, they took a simple superstition which is around and made a fun movie out of it. It was a period film, exploring the 70’s of rural India. I was instantly reminded of swades, a great hindi film which again explores the development gap between cities and villages, it goes a bit further to compare development as seen by an Indian NASA engineer and his old house-hold nanny’s village.  While Swades was a serious film about self empowerment and braking society’s rules about casteism and encouraging education, Mundasupatti is just a funny movie about how stupid, people are.  The movie revolves around a village after which the film is named, the people in the village believe that taking a photograph causes people to get sick and die. The movie did a faithful representation of the rural India, with its proud people and crazy traditions which make no sense. People...

Apache Nutch-Solr Integration

Apache Nutch-Solr Integration   As of this writing, I am using Solr 4.8.0 and Nutch 1.8.0 binaries for the integration. Will catch up to later versions as and when my project requires. We can cover installation and operation of Solr and Nutch separately and then talk about the integration. the version of Nutch that I am using is very closely built with Solr and the integration is very simple. For simplicity sake, Ill stick to Linux environment for both as Nutch does not operate in windows natively. Getting Solr to work 1. All you need to for Solr to work are the binaries. you can get them from their  official page  (version 4.8.0) 2. Extract the  solr-4.8.0.zip  in some location. for this tutorial, lets assume that its in  /home/test/Research/solr 4.8.0/ 3. Open terminal, navigate to  /home/test/Research/solr-4.8.0/example/  and execute the following command to start solr server java -jar start.jar  4...
